On January 18, walkers in the fourth annual Women’s March will traverse America’s cities to lift their voices in a call for unity and sisterhood in confronting some of our world’s most significant challenges, from personal to political to planetary.
This year’s march will make room to acknowledge female founders and the integral role they play in securing the lives and livelihoods of women throughout the world.
“For the first time ever, the Women’s March in New York will have a funding-focused block of speakers on its mainstage,” Karen Cahn, CEO of iFundWomen in New York City, said.
iFundWomen, a crowdfunding platform for female founders, is Cahn’s brainchild. After working at Google, YouTube, and AOL, Cahn launched iFundWomen in 2016. In addition to crowdfunding, iFundWomen works with budding entrepreneurs through coaching, marketing, community partnerships, and grant research.
Also on the dais will be Arlan Hamilton of Backstage Capital, a fund that invests in businesses owned by women, people of color, and members of the LGBTQ community. As the company name suggests, Hamilton had a wealth of experience in the entertainment industry, working with Janine & The Mixtape, Floetry, Toni Braxton, Jason Derulo, Chromeo, and Pharrell Williams, prior to launching Backstage Capital. Hamilton will speak on her journey from homelessness to founding her venture capital effort.
Sallie Krawcheck, founder of Ellevest, an online investing tool, will round out the lineup of speakers. Krawcheck chairs Ellevate Network, a global professional women’s network, and Pax Ellevate Management (PXWEX), a global women’s leadership fund. Krawcheck’s message for marchers will focus on the importance of investing at any income level.
iFundWomen has partnered with the Women’s March to fundraise for the security, stages, and equipment for the event. Donors receive business-supportive thank-you gifts; think a 45-minute coaching session with Cahn; a 2-slide Instagram story with a swipe-up link; or the linking of your company’s name to the official sponsors page for the 2020 Women’s March NYC. If you can make it, please turn out to hear these inspirational women speak on what The F Project is all about – the call to fund our sister entrepreneurs and establish ourselves as the financial force we are!
