Vanessa Lianne Perel-Panar is one of those people who always knew what she wanted to be. She just didn’t know the name for it.
As a little girl growing up in Vancouver, Vanessa spent countless hours playing with jewelry, making beads, and eventually creating new pieces from recycling her grandmother’s costume jewelry. It wasn’t until after she graduated from college with a degree in art history and philosophy that she really began to define her passion as a vocation.
Vanessa studied with an artisan in Vancouver and used her dad’s dental lab as a metal-working shop for her designs. After enjoying some local success, she was accepted to F.I.T.’s year-long postgraduate jewelry program. One of her best-selling rings was created during her time there.
Vanessa Lianne Jewelry was selling in both Vancouver and New York, and Vanessa knew it was time to take it to the next level. She enlisted the help of a marketing guru who came highly recommended by her sister, and Vanessa Lianne Jewelry took off. Both Katie Perry and Kourtney Kardashian wore rings from the collection on magazine covers, giving the brand a big boost.
Vanessa credits the success of her company with a couple of things (besides her talent, of course). “I think it’s important in business to know that you don’t know everything and find people who are really good at the things that you’re not good at,” she said in a Cosmopolitan article. “But the biggest difference between me and someone who hasn’t made it is that I just haven’t stopped.”
