There’s just something about a pint and a spoon. Ice cream comes to mind, of course, but Rana Lustyan knows a thing or two about sweetness, and she’s offering up a different experience: raw cookie dough that’s delicious (of course) and safe to eat!
Just in case you missed the sad news, raw cookie dough is a no-no, due to ingredients like raw eggs (salmonella, no thanks) and raw flour (E. coli, I’ll pass). But let’s be real. Raw cookie dough is delicious! It can be pretty tempting to take your chances and pinch a bit before it’s baked.
After a nasty national raw-cookie-dough-induced spate of illness in 2009, Rana saw an opportunity. She had trained at Le Cordon Bleu, with an emphasis on pastry (based on her own personal love affair with desserts), she was organized and hard-working, and she had a supportive husband. Plus, really, she just had to launch a business once she’d decided on such a witty name for a raw cookie dough company!
To make a truly outstanding product, Rana first focused on making it safe. That included leaving out raw eggs, raw flour, and chemical leavening. Then she put in those incredible ingredients she had used in her work in some very fine restaurants in Los Angeles. Ingredients like hormone-free butter, alcohol-free vanilla bean extract, and Callebaut Dark Belgian Chocolate. Plus, Rana perfected some personal recipes to use in her doughs, such as cinnamon cobbler crumble.
Whoopi Goldberg did Edoughble a huge mitzvah when she gave some Edoughble to Jimmy Fallon on the Tonight Show. Online business took off. Whole Foods brought it onboard, as have other retailers.
Rana and Edoughble keep on rollin’! (Get it…like cookie dough? Oh never mind. Just grab a pint and spoon!)
