Founder Feature: Mimi Rutledge & Tina Labadini

Ditty [‘didē] NOUN a short, simple song; piece of poetry

Amen. After juggling keys, poop bags, her phone, and Fido’s treats, Mimi Rutledge had an inspiration. Why not create a carrying bag with a leash handle for her trips to the dog park? And why not tap good friend Tina Labadini to do the design? After all, Tina is well known for her clever and creative designs with her eponymous company, Tina Labadini Designs. Viola! A piece of poetry, indeed.

Mimi and Tina collaborated to create The Doggy Ditty, a super cute bag made of coated cotton with a leash that doubles as the cross body strap. Given that 44% of all households in the United States have a dog, the creation of The Doggy Ditty was a savvy expansion for Tina’s company.

Although Tina has run her own business since 2007, entrepreneurship is a new venture for Mimi. She holds a law degree from Boston College, and serves on the board of a nonprofit that supplies furniture and other household goods to those in need in her community of Acton, MA. Both women are moms to three children and have been active in civic service. Developing The Doggy Ditty together has been a welcome extension of their friendship.
