Founder Feature: Jenny Bonchak

Coffee is the wind beneath the wings of oh-so-many female founders…and mothers, college students, grandmothers…Life pretty much runs on coffee. So Jenny Bonchak, founder of Slingshot Coffee Co., knows her business is offering a valuable commodity.

And Jenny knows that valuable commodity inside and out. As the Eastern Conference Champion in the 2016 US Brewers Cup, Jenny really showed her stuff when she detected notes of watermelon rind (yes, watermelon rind) in her batch of coffee. When crafting the recipes for Slingshot, she personally sourced the coffee beans that go into each bottle of Slingshot very specifically, for a bright and juicy taste.

Slingshot recently added a line of Cascara tea to their products, and launched sodas featuring coffee with other flavors. Business accolades include Entrepreneur of the Year from Southern Living Magazine and a spot in the Coca Cola Founders Forum, Class 3.0.

What’s next? Jenny told The Sprudge in a June 2019 interview that she would like to start a fund to capitalize women-owned start-ups.

“I want to be in the trenches with them and coach them in order to help grow their ideas and passions into profitable businesses that can continue to change the narrative on equity and equality in business—and then their businesses can do the same.”

Presumably, coffee will be served at all pitches.
