As far as role models go, a Roman sea goddess is pretty unique. Maybe it was the sea goddess Salacia who spoke to Cari Clark Phelps in her slumber. Cari awoke to recall an unusual dream…blending a beautiful bowl of bath salts derived from the bounty of the sea and botanicals from the earth.
Given that Cari’s waking hours include running an award-winning creative agency, Clark Creative in Savannah, she didn’t waste time pondering what to do. She took her inspirational dream and made it a reality.
Founded in 2012, Salacia Salts is a line of salt soaks, moisturizers, shower steamers, hand and body scrubs, and cleansers. All products are handmade in small batches, with a “good dose of Southern hospitality.” Cari believes in keeping it basic; Salacia Salts are free of sulfates, colorants, and parabens, and packaging is made from post-consumer resources whenever possible. Additionally, bulk refills are available at the flagship store in historic downtown Savannah, and Cari has carved out space for interactive group workshops there as well.
In addition to the Savannah store, Salacia Salts are sold in finer retailers nationwide. Cari plans to expand to a hair care line and a home care line in the future.
