Cast those earbuds aside – it’s good to talk to strangers on a plane! That’s an actual finding of a 2014 social experiment published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology. And it was definitely the case for Amy Briant and Lisa Bonoff, founders of LUMIONskin.

Amy was already an entrepreneur who owned and operated several fitness studios when she and Lisa met. Lisa had extensive experience working in marketing in the financial, beauty, and retail fields…and an unrealized dream to run her own company. The conversation they struck up as flight seatmates led to a friendship and a business partnership that launched LUMIONskin.

Amy had not fallen far from the entrepreneurial tree. Her dad had created a formulation for skin care that used only natural ingredients (specifically, chemicals that are naturally occurring in the human body). Amy had been using her dad’s formulation with glowing success. Amy and Lisa figured it might be just the product they needed to build a company.

The secret sauce? LUMIONskin uses hypochlorous acid, a substance created in our white blood cells as part of the body’s immune reaction, to provide anti-inflammatory and deeply purifying effects.

In addition to doing good for our skin, Amy and Lisa do good for our planet. One percent of LUMIONskin’s sales are donated to Reef Check, an organization dedicated to assessing and improving the condition of coral and rocky reef ecosystems.
