Most women who have a unique skill and a demonstrated ability to earn a living using it might look no further when it came to career paths than that. Amanda McIntosh has proven she’s not most women.
A graduate of the prestigious Eastman School of Music, Amanda left her graduate studies at DePaul when an opportunity arose to join the Orquesta Sinfonica de Galicia in Spain. She followed up with a position as principal clarinetist with the Sarasota Opera. Classical music. What a great vocation.
Not so fast…Amanda was also working as consultant at a company founded by her mom. She helped corporations all over the world improve their customer service. Okay. Consultant too. Wow.
Hold up. Amanda was not done yet. A lover of all things beautiful, including the amazing face she created for performances, Amanda had grown tired of cotton balls, wipes, and wash cloths for her post-performance cleansing ritual. A light bulb moment occurred one night when all her wash cloths were in the laundry. There had to be something better than all that.
Next phase? Entrepreneur. Amanda developed the Mitty, a softer, reusable, cloth makeup remover, and created Take My Face Off, the Mitty’s parent company. While she was at it, she learned a lot about beauty-based pollution. So now you can add environmentalist to her long list of descriptors.
What’s next? Who knows, but the smart money says Amanda McIntosh just might have some other lives up her sleeve.
