Founder Feature: Alexis Mera Damen

Alexis Mera Damen is not afraid to rethink things…including her business. She gave it up for a while before deciding to relaunch with a new focus and keep her side gig in photography and marketing. There are a lot of doors out there; why not go through more than one? Join us as we chat with Alexis about what she’s doing now.

The F Project: What was the lightbulb moment that made you start your company?

Alexis Mera Damen: My moment was more about a desire to have something of my own and initially it was a combination of that and the experience I had in corporate. Most recently I've gone through a rebrand, which I decided to do based on everything I've learned since starting my company in 2015.

TFP: What makes you want to jump out of bed every day?

AMD: Not entirely related to my business, but working out. I try to work out 3-5 mornings per week. It gets me going, clears my head, and helps me focus throughout the day.

TFP: What about your past career or life experience prepared you for entrepreneurship? What was a total shock?

AMD: I was a product developer in the fashion industry for nearly a decade before launching my brand, so the process of developing a product was seamless. The rest of running a business, in particular marketing and the financial side of things, was a huge challenge for me initially. I'm proud of everything I've learned.

TFP: What makes your product special/different?

AMD: Each of my graphic tees gets designed in collaboration with another woman. We share each other's story and donate 5% of sales to charities chosen by each of my partners.

TFP: What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

AMD: Do what you love.

TFP: Why did you join The F Project?

AMD: I joined The F Project to support other women in business and to get that same support in return.
